I have been to @FoundaryCafe twice this week. The “vaab” is cool and the food and drink is also on point.
This was my favourite dish. Simple is always more difficult – steak tartare with a glorious egg yolk and condiments to boot.
The carpaccio is also noteworthy with fried capers and cheese so smelly it made me turn around to point fingers.
Gareth, the manager-chef is clearly a smart man. Flavours and textures are top of mind. Go visit. Best I have had in Jozi #blogfood #restaurantreview

Yet another completely average Jozi dinner. Sigh. #Mexican at Peron in Illovo – pulled pork taco’s (pales in comparison to the chilorio pork I still lust after), courgette quesadilla’s (meh), Popeye empanada’s (spinach, cheese and dough for as far as the eye can see, black bean tostada’s

Last night’s easy dinner in #Parkhurst. from the bottom left an assortment of ‘cicheti’ a Venician word for small plates, my favourite way to eat: salmon tartare laced with whole grain mustard & capers, lightly battered squid with aioli, crispy porchetta with home made sweet chilli, grilled mushrooms with a fancy name I can’t remember (that did nothing but hype up a really averse dish). The Hendricks Gin Martini to start was a dream

I adore pork belly. Yes, it’s encased in piggie fat but when it’s done right, it’s the highlight of my day/night/life. This dish had show stopping crackling, which is a feat in itself

The Butternut & Gorgonzola risotto at @HartfordHouse was nice. Yes, just nice. The flavour was fairly flat but the crispy potato strings added a good amount of texture. The staff miss Jackie Cameron and they were pretty vocal about it. Very few people enjoy chance but Jackie was there for 11 years and become the heart and soul of Hartford House, the dining experience, as well as a few lives. #blogfood #MidlandsMeander #restaurant

Not a bad way to start the week. A pitstop at @Nottmbrewery. The Pickled Pig Porter claims the “more you drink, the better you feel”. A theory I may have to test out first hand

Had to stop passed #TheGlenwoodBakery before heading back to Jozi. This is another epic little artisanal spot in Glenwood, the old part of Durban. Beside the ciabatta and pain au chocolat, I took pretty much one of everything on site: Parmesan grisini, lavash, bagels and lox & cheese croissants… Food is fuel, no

It took this guy 4 day (FOUR DAYS) to build this castle in the sand. The detail is noteworthy. #blogtravel #Durban
